Love is in the Air - Original Artwork
Building on the theme of new life and family, this artwork was inspired by local birds on my daily walks around the Fremantle area with the family dog. Covid has impressed upon me the importance of taking joy from everything around me and I rediscovered a deep appreciation for the abundance of nature right outside my front door. I love how people erect bird boxes to support native birds who can’t find naturally occurring tree hollows to nest in and this gave me the idea to create a bird family.
I wanted this work to feel a little bit textural with the baby birds peeking out of the hollow and the leaves look like they are gently catching a breeze. Over many, many hours of work these pretty birds, along with the flowers, leaves and tree trunk have all been individually drawn, painted, cut and carefully arranged onto the vibrant painted background. They sing a song of joy, of life renewing, nurture and the power of mother nature.
Pen & ink, crayon, watercolour and collage on paper
