Butterfly Bub Butterfly bub was inspired by joy. Its the wonder of new life emerging, all the hope and possibility of this new little person. Butterfly bub was created over many hours of careful work, drawing and painting individual pieces and gradually building up a wondrous nest: a safe and beautiful Australian nest surrounded by magical butterflies, symbols of hope and love. On one branch you can spy the mother bird watching over her precious babies, symbolising family. I take inspiration from the local flora and fauna, sometimes taking a photo of a local bird as a reference or picking small bits off trees and taking them into my studio to draw from. I wanted this to feel a little bit textural, painting both sides of the wings of the flying butterflies and placing them with the wings up as if they are actually flying around the little one. This precious baby is safe and surrounded by boundless love.
