Fremantle: City of Colour
– an artist’s celebration of the port city
Five years in the making ‘Fremantle: City of Colour – an artist’s celebration of the port city’ was completely produced by Cate Rose. Painted en plein air in Fremantle, Cate Rose was also responsible for the photography, research, writing and design of the book.
I love Fremantle. When I lived in Europe I carried my paints everywhere and drew constantly. When I returned to Australia I was inspired to capture Fremantle which I had missed so much. Without intending too, at some point I realised I had quite a few paintings and the idea came to me to create a book: a beautiful book which celebrates the gorgeous old town I call “home”.
It was a long journey interspersed with many challenges before Fremantle: City of Colour finally came to fruition. Many times the challenges seemed insurmountable and I wondered if I was crazy (although I’ve always thought being a bit crazy in this crazy world helps!). I learnt lots of new skills to get me up to the task of designing the book and with the support of my fantastic husband, took a leap of faith.
Fremantle: City of Colour takes a tour of Fremantle with beautiful visuals. Each artwork is accompanied by an engaging description about its historical background.
Experience the colour: a reflection of Fremantle’s eclectic past and bright future: magnificent yet dark, difficult yet wonderful, desperate yet hopeful.
Explore the streets packed with colour and history.
Lose yourself in the bustle of the Fremantle Markets, the commotion of Fisherman’s Harbour, the quiet streets and the bracing ocean winds at South Mole lighthouse.
